Valencia and Javier Aguirre agree through June 2027

Valencia and Mexican coach Javier Aguirre have reached an agreement for him to take charge of the team until June 2027, with the possibility of an extension of one more season if the club manages to qualify for the Europa League or better, according to Mundo Deportivo.

However, it is not yet official. As the same source explains, the announcement will come only after this Sunday’s match between Valencia and Real Sociedad, and will be made public in the hours that follow.

Deal with performance-linked continuity

Negotiations with director of football Braulio Vázquez have progressed over several days until they found common ground. Mundo Deportivo says Aguirre accepted a lower salary proposal and that the agreement was largely made possible by solving one of the main sticking points: the contract length. The coach wanted more room to build his project, while Valencia preferred to keep some caution and not commit further than this season.

The outcome is a contract running to 2027, with continuity linked to the team’s results.

Coaching staff set to arrive

Aguirre is expected to arrive in Mestalla with the physical coach Pol Lorente. In parallel, Mundo Deportivo reports that the Mexican Football Federation has ended Lorente’s spell with the national team, and that Toni Amor would be the second assistant.

Aguirre takes over at a difficult time. Valencia sit in the relegation zone after a very poor start that led to the sacking of Carlos Corberán, and Óscar Sánchez has acted as caretaker. Mundo Deportivo adds that once he is in place, Aguirre will have a short pre-season period due to the three-week international break.
