The Principality will sponsor Oviedo and Sporting with “Asturias, paradise”
Adrián Barbón announced the regional sponsorship for Oviedo and Sporting, using “Asturias, paraíso natural” as a tourism showcase.
Principality president Adrián Barbón confirmed this Tuesday that the regional government will again sponsor the two big Asturian football clubs: Real Oviedo and Real Sporting. As reported by Sport, the goal is to use both teams’ momentum as a showcase for the tourism brand “Asturias, paraíso natural”, bringing Sporting and Oviedo together under the same umbrella for the first time.
Barbón said during his appearance at the Debate on Political Guidelines that the Executive wants to project the image of Asturias “in every match, in every stadium, in every city.” He also highlighted—after meeting the club presidents, Martín Peláez (Oviedo) and José Riestra (Sporting)—the role of these teams as “catalysts for economic activity and engines for tourism traction”, according to the same outlet.
Where the new sponsor will appear
The sponsorship will apply in the current 2026/2027 season and will be shown on the kits. For Real Oviedo, the “Asturias, paraíso natural” badge will be placed on the back of the trousers. For Sporting, it will go on the upper part of the back of the shirt. Sport also notes that, despite the announcement, the exact start date for when it will be worn has not yet been officially specified.
Still, everything points to a debut in the first Asturian derby of the campaign: Sunday, September 27, at 21:00, at the Carlos Tartiere. Either way, the move continues the Principality’s strategy of linking tourism promotion to its main local clubs, while also emphasizing women’s sport and the year-round use of sports facilities.
