Álex Grimaldo returns to Atlético with a quadriceps issue ahead of Alavés
The Atlético full-back left Spain camp with quadriceps discomfort but could be fit for Alavés after the international break.
Álex Grimaldo is back with Atlético de Madrid after leaving the Spain camp due to quadriceps discomfort. As reported by MARCA, despite the alarms raised when he dropped from Spain’s XI versus Croatia in the warm-up and had to leave the concentration, scans point to no serious injury—keeping his availability for the Alavés game after the international break on the table.
Grimaldo was released from the national team to avoid taking any risk and worsening the problem in his left thigh. From this Thursday, he will return to Atlético to continue recovery, without joining training with the group of six working with Simeone, instead working with the medical and recovery staff. The hope is to rejoin the squad normally next week, following how he feels rather than rushing his conditioning.
The club is being cautious due to a tight schedule: three days after Alavés, Atlético host Manchester United at the Metropolitano, so his readiness will depend on evolution and sensations.
