Alex Scott’s thigh injury: Tuchel insists England took ‘zero risk’

The Bournemouth midfielder could miss up to two months after leaving England’s 7-0 win over Croatia with a thigh problem.

Alex Scott (Bournemouth) is in doubt after worsening a thigh issue that saw him withdraw from international duty, leaving his club unhappy about how the situation was handled. The 23-year-old impressed in England’s 7-0 Nations League win over Croatia on Saturday, but won’t feature again in this break and may be sidelined for up to two months.

England boss Thomas Tuchel insisted there was no risk taken. He said Scott trained fully before the Croatia match, did extra work afterwards, and that medics gave “green lights”. Tuchel added that when England noticed slight discomfort during the game, Scott was asked if he wanted to come off and replied no. After the match, Scott even told the staff he felt he could have played 90 minutes.

Scott stayed with the squad following the recent death of his grandfather, and had already made a late appearance last week against Czechia. Tuchel also pointed out that the medical department stayed in constant contact and that England are not phoning clubs for advice during the camp. With Ezri Konsa out on a quad injury, Tuchel now weighs options for the next group game.
