Álvaro Fidalgo on pressure at Betis: “eight for three spots”
Betis midfielder played 78 minutes in Mexico’s 1-1 vs Peru, as he manages intense competition for minutes in the Champions-level squad.
Álvaro Fidalgo, Real Betis’ midfielder, started for Mexico and played 78 minutes in the 1-1 draw vs Peru, the second match since Rafael Márquez took charge of El Tri. He was replaced at the 78th minute by Santiago Sandoval at the Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey.
After the game, Fidalgo addressed the press about the fierce competition in Betis’ midfield, with the club now competing in Europe’s top tier. “Some people made a lot of noise this summer… nothing to do with it,” he said regarding reports that he might leave the club and return to Mexico.
A fight for minutes
The midfielder admitted the bar is high: “It’s not easy, obviously… it’s a Champions team. We’re eight players for three positions—Champions League winners, World Cup experience, an incredibly high level,” TUDN reported.
