Andy Burnham to publish details of his Man City meetings

The UK prime minister says he will release details of meetings with senior City figures after the verdict and the club’s appeal.

Andy Burnham, UK prime minister and an Everton supporter, says he will publish details of his meetings with senior figures at Manchester City. It follows backlash over comments he made after the club was found guilty on all charges relating to breaches of Premier League financial rules.

BBC Sport reports that an independent commission concluded City broke those rules over a nine-year span from 2009 to 2018, using “sham” contracts with commercial partners to secretly funnel more than £830m into football operations.

Speaking on The Rest is Politics podcast, Burnham said: “I’ve been asked by the leader of the opposition to publish details of my meetings… and I’m going to,” adding that his only major meeting took place in 2021. City returned to action against Liverpool on Sunday and won 3-0, while the club continues its appeal and denies wrongdoing.
