Anfield “cheat” chants and Iraola’s rebuild: weekend Premier talking points
Manchester City won at Liverpool and sparked “cheat” songs, while Tottenham and Arteta turn to Noni Madueke vs Leeds.
Manchester City’s win at Anfield left a live wire: Liverpool fans chanted “cheat” when City circulated the ball as the game was already slipping away. The Guardian also notes Enzo Maresca called it “noise”, but the victory did little to quiet the volume.
Iraola still building
Andoni Iraola’s Liverpool reboot needs time. They pressed and looked determined against Manchester City, yet were uneven in execution. With Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo missing, the Reds struggled to create the damage needed after Ryan Gravenberch’s sending off.
Madueke steals attention
Mikel Arteta gave Noni Madueke the start at Leeds. “He deserved the chance and he took it,” said the Arsenal boss. Even off position, Madueke stretched play with pace and delivered danger, creating the most chances in the game (three).
