Ansu Fati trains again, but misses Monaco’s Lens squad

L'Équipe reported last Tuesday that Ansu Fati could make Monaco’s squad for this Friday’s Ligue 1 game against Lens, but in the end the forward did not appear in the list released that same morning by coach Filipe Luis, as Mundo Deportivo reports.

Back in group training

When Monaco published the Lens call-up, the club confirmed that Ansu Fati has already returned to training with the group. However, Galician media suggest that Filipe Luis would rather have the ex-Barcelona forward return fully to the group after the international break.

Still no minutes this season

The 23-year-old has yet to play a single minute this term: he has not featured in either friendlies or official matches. The reason goes back to calf problems picked up during pre-season, which led Monaco to set him on an individualized preparation plan to avoid a bigger issue.

Monaco paid €11 million to Barcelona for the player this summer and he signed through 2030. Last season he scored 12 goals for the Louis II outfit: 11 in Ligue 1 and one in the Champions League (according to Mundo Deportivo).

Next chance for a debut

For now, his first appearance will have to wait beyond this Lens match. If the club follows its step-by-step plan after the international break, the next checkpoint will be getting him back into the squad and pushing for his first minutes of the campaign.
