Anthony Gordon on the “flechazo” that brought him to Barcelona
Arriving as Barcelona’s first signing for 2026-2027, he has eight appearances, five assists, and is still chasing his first goals.
Anthony Gordon, the English winger for Barcelona, joined from Newcastle as the club’s first signing for the 2026-2027 season and has played only eight matches so far. In that stretch he already has five assists, but admits he’s still got “the goals” on his to-do list. In an interview with Barça Magazine (October edition), he says: “I haven’t had many chances to score yet,” adding, “I’m convinced I’ll score many goals.”
Adapting fast
Gordon says he clicked quickly with the fans and was genuinely surprised by the welcome: “They’ve admired Messi, Luis Suárez, Ronaldinho and many of the best players… I didn’t expect to be appreciated so much from the start.” He also points to help in training and daily life, naming Eric García—“he speaks perfect English”—and Dani Olmo as key support.
The Barça he wants to emulate
On what the club feels like now, he talks about control, tiki-taka and domination, with higher intensity pressure but the same core ideas: keeping the ball and forcing opponents to touch it as little as possible. He even picks a benchmark: “The best Barça I’ve ever seen is Pep Guardiola’s… the one that won the Champions League with Xavi and Iniesta.”
