Antoine Semenyo ruled out for eight weeks as Man City lose cover
Semenyo’s knee injury rules him out for eight weeks; Erling Haaland is a doubt vs AEK Athens in the Champions League.
Antoine Semenyo is out for eight weeks with a knee injury, leaving Manchester City short of options for their Champions League home game against AEK Athens FC. The forward limped off in Saturday’s match against Ipswich, and Erling Haaland also hobbled off with a foot problem, making him a doubt for the Tuesday fixture.
Manager Enzo Maresca said replacing Haaland is difficult but that “we’ll see tomorrow” on other choices. He also stressed that losing Semenyo “is not good”, while pointing out that Semenyo could be used as a 9 and that Phil Foden and Iliman Ndiaye may be involved.
The timing is tough for City, who rotated heavily versus Ipswich with six changes, as part of a hectic stretch of seven games in 21 days. They also need to bounce back in Europe after going down to Paris Saint-Germain last Wednesday.
