Antonio Casas ruled out until 2027 after grade-3 injury with Sporting

Antonio Casas injured vs Celta Fortuna and will miss 2-4 months; the Sporting striker is out until the new year.

Sporting have taken another hit: Antonio Casas (Sporting) suffered an injury in the game against Celta Fortuna and will be sidelined for several months, with his absence extending until 2027. The problem is a grade-3 injury to the right biceps femoris, with an expected layoff of two to four months.

The striker, on loan from Venezia, suffered the rupture in Sporting’s win over Celta Fortuna and was replaced at halftime. Early medical tests followed the match, but swelling led to a new assessment the next day, which confirmed the severity.

Blow after his scoring burst

Casas did not get long to enjoy his early goal run in Gijón. After a couple of contact matches, he scored for the first time in the trip to Andorra, and on the day he got injured he netted his first double as a Sporting player, going on to become the team’s top scorer early on.

Sporting also held an urgent meeting at El Molinón after the Celta Fortuna win to identify possible causes behind the recent spate of injuries, with Nicolás Larcamón and executive president José Riestra among those present. Even if some players return next week, Casas’s loss is another major setback for Mareo, as MARCA reports.
