Antonio Rüdiger delivers the miracle as Real Madrid comeback to beat Roma 4-3
Real Madrid overturned a 3-1 deficit with three goals in the last six minutes in the Champions League for a 4-3 away win.
Antonio Rüdiger sealed the deal as Real Madrid pulled off a wild Champions League turnaround against AS Roma: they won 4-3 at the Stadio Olimpico after trailing 3-1.
Marten de Roon put the hosts ahead before Kylian Mbappé struck back before the break, his 100th Champions League appearance. Donyell Malen then scored twice early in the second half within six minutes, making it look like the game was slipping away from the 15-time European champions.
Three goals in six minutes
But Madrid stormed back with three goals in the final six minutes, all coming from corners. Carlos Espí, Endrick and the former Roma defender Rüdiger found the net to turn the match on its head.
José Mourinho summed up the swing in the game: “You could say there were two games in one. Roma were better in all aspects early on. When it was 3-1 everyone probably thought the game was over.”
Elsewhere, Bodø/Glimt beat Borussia Dortmund 1-0 thanks to Fredrik Sjøvold’s strike in the 52nd minute, and Shakhtar Donetsk recovered to win 3-1 at Stamford Bridge against AEK Athens.
