Antony (Real Betis) works on finishing: 32 shots, no goals
The Betis winger has 32 attempts in LaLiga’s opening run and has talked about pubalgia while trying to find the net.
Antony of Real Betis is pushing to improve his finishing after starting the season with no goals in his first eight LaLiga matches. The winger has been constantly testing opposing keepers, but the net still hasn’t rewarded his shots.
As MARCA points out, his attacking output hasn’t dropped—he’s generating chances: over the first seven league rounds, he has 32 attempts, with 13 coming on target. Only Kylian Mbappé (41) and Lamine Yamal (38) have fired more in the competition. In Champions League, Antony added six shots versus Lille, bringing his total to 38 attempts in 611 minutes, with 14 on target.
Pubalgia behind the scenes
Antony linked his struggle to the pubalgia he dealt with last season, saying: “I finished the season taking pills to play.” The international break has helped him keep with the physical plan he began this summer, working with Fran Silva and training in the afternoons alongside Nelson Deossa and Facundo Bernal. “Everyone tells me I’m stronger,” he said.
That change is meant to move on from the pubis problems that started in December and affected him for much of the year. With Pellegrini trusting him—Antony has played eight official games, seven as a starter—the main task now is turning all those efforts into goals.
