Areso doubts Valencia’s new coach Aguirre before Athletic in Mestalla
Athletic visit Mestalla this Saturday under Javier Aguirre, who replaced Carlos Corberán, with Valencia on just 5 points from 24.
Athletic Club’s Asier Romo Areso heads into this Saturday’s competitive match at Mestalla against Valencia, after Javier Aguirre took over as coach. The winger is wary of the change: “Mestalla always is a difficult stage… I don’t like coaching changes because you don’t know how the new manager will set up the game.”
Areso says they don’t know “how they’re going to act” with Aguirre and expects a side that will be “hard to beat”, built on a clearly defined system. He also draws on personal experience: “I’ve faced Aguirre with Mallorca.” He adds that Aguirre has only played one match recently, in Santander, finishing 2-2.
Athletic are aiming for their third win of the season and to add to their points tally, though they arrive having played two matches fewer. Areso calls it “a very uncomfortable situation” and says the goal is to take something positive from Mestalla to then benefit from the two games in hand.
