Athenea del Castillo banned: misses Spain’s friendly vs USA
The RFEF confirms the Real Madrid forward will miss the second friendly at 1:00 a.m.: Spain won the opener 0-2.
The RFEF has confirmed that Athenea del Castillo (Real Madrid) will not play Spain’s second friendly against the United States and will watch it from the stands at Subaru Park in Chester. The match is scheduled for the early hours from Tuesday to Wednesday at 1:00 a.m.
The absence comes from a red card in the first game, played in Washington. The forward was on the pitch for just minutes: after coming on, she grabbed the hair of the American player Cooper during a challenge for a loose ball. VAR reviewed the incident and it resulted in a direct red.
Under FIFA disciplinary rules for international matches, the suspension applies even if it’s a friendly. Spain is using this window for tests with the 2027 Brazil World Cup in mind, and the madridista will miss her chance to make amends in the rematch.
