Athletic arrive at Mestalla with little match rhythm after suspensions
Since the 19 September draw, the Reds-Lions have been hit by postponements and their Vallecas game stopped after 13 minutes: they play Valencia on 17 October.
Edin Terzic’s Athletic head to Mestalla with very little match action in their legs after a run of breaks and the suspension of the Rayo-Athletic game. The side return to LaLiga on Saturday 17 October against Valencia, after struggling to maintain continuity since the 19 September draw with Alavés.
The disruption began with the postponement of the Levante fixture due to heavy rain, continued through the international break and then snowballed in Vallecas. That match was left at 13 minutes before thrown objects forced a definitive stop.
Almost no transition
As MARCA reports, Athletic will have to jump from inactivity to a tougher stretch quickly: after Mestalla comes the postponed trip to Levante, set for 21 October, and soon after, the Copa and more league games follow.
