Athletic to learn Copa rival today at 13:00 draw

Athletic Club will learn its first Copa opponent this Monday from the 13:00 draw for the first knockout round. A total of 112 teams go into the pot to form 56 ties, while the four Supercopa sides—Barcelona, Real Sociedad, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid—are exempt from the first two rounds, according to Mundo Deportivo.

For Terzic’s side, the potential rivals narrow to four. One option is a possible Vizcaya derby with Sestao River, who earned their place by reaching the Copa Federación semifinals.

The other three possibilities come from teams that passed their previous stage: Anaitasuna, who knocked out Tedeón (5-0 and 2-5), and Atlético Calatayud, who eliminated Baztán (2-0 and 1-2). The Prat–San Rafael pairing is still open because the Balearic team couldn’t travel due to “weather-related issues”, with Prat leading 1-5 from the first leg. Matches for this round are set for the last week of October, with Athletic’s game slated for Thursday 29.
