Atlético Madrid close in on international players’ return

Grimaldo trained as the main news; most internationals are back Thursday for the Saturday trip to Alavés.

Atlético Madrid worked on Wednesday with their countdown to the return of all their internationals. At the Majadahonda training ground, Grimaldo stood out as the big novelty, taking part from the start with the rest of the first-team players who were available.

The session mixed physical work led by Luis Piñedo with training alongside the squad and academy players. Esquivel was on the pitch after returning from a Sub 21 call-up, while Rodrigo Mendoza did gym work following his international break. Hjulmand trained separately.

Thursday brings the majority back

MARCA reports that it will be Thursday at 6:00 pm when most of the internationals return to prepare the Saturday match versus Alavés. The later arrivals include Baena, Pubill and Le Normand (Spain), Musso, Cuti, Giuliano and Julián (Argentina), plus Oblak, Hancko, Vargas and Jonathan David—so Simeone will have two days to get everything ready for the league return.
