Aymeric Laporte returns to training with Athletic ahead of Valencia
After missing last Friday’s Vallecas squad due to an illness, the defender did running and ball work at Lezama two days before Athletic–Valencia.
Aymeric Laporte, from Athletic Club, brought the good news in Lezama’s third session of the week: the Frenchman missed last Friday’s training squad due to an indisposition ahead of Vallecas, a match that was ultimately postponed, and on Tuesday he carried out continuous running and ball work.
Laporte has been a key piece early on for Edin Terzic, ranking as the club’s second-most used outfield player by minutes, behind Sancet. He has played the full 90 in six matches, starting in five. With Luis De la Fuente in Nations League 2026, he completed the three matches of the first window at the 270-minute cap (vs England, Czech Republic and Croatia), only being left out for the clash against Croatia.
Also, Berenguer trained normally after missing the prior day. Nico Williams trained separately by running and working with the ball and is set to miss the trip to Mestalla due to a moderate muscle injury in the left rectus anterior. Terzic must also manage Oihan Sancet, who has discomfort in the left soleus. The Athletic will face Valencia in the ninth matchday in two days if the signs hold.
