Barcelona match historic start with nine straight wins

FC Barcelona extended their unbeaten run to nine straight league wins after beating Real Betis 2-5 at La Cartuja. The result breaks the previous club record of eight consecutive victories set under ‘Tata’ Martino in 2013-2014.

Historic level

Back then, Barcelona reached the ninth matchday and stopped winning when they drew 0-0 at Osasuna. With this win, the current side also equals the best start in the history of the Spanish top flight: Real Madrid’s 1968-1969 “Madrid of the ‘ye-yés”, which also managed nine straight wins.

Mundo Deportivo adds that if Barcelona win the Clásico next Sunday, they would become the team with the best league start ever, reaching ten wins in the first ten rounds.
