Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 Freiburg: Maza and Schick deliver

Leverkusen beat Freiburg 2-1 in matchday six, handing the top spot to Bayern with 14 points after six games.

Bayer Leverkusen, coached by Carles Martínez Novell, won 2-1 at home against SC Freiburg, passing the leadership to Bayern München on matchday six. Ibrahim Maza and Patrik Schick combined for the goals and assists, with Freiburg suffering their first Bundesliga loss.

As Mundo Deportivo reports, the game turned early at the BayArena: Freiburg took the lead in the 14th minute after a counter started by Philipp Treu and finished by Derry Scherhant. Five minutes later, Maza levelled by capitalising on a mix-up between Jordy Makengo and Matthias Ginter, then converting a move involving Moussa Diaby on the right.

The turning point came late in the second half. In the final stretch, Maza beat two defenders including a nutmeg, found Schick, and the Czech striker scored with a cross-shot. Schick now has a goal in each of the six league matches, totalling six goals, a record start for Leverkusen.

Freiburg end the day with 13 points, dropping from first to third and being caught by Leverkusen. Bayern top the table with 14 points thanks to the best goal difference.
