Borja Jiménez and Cádiz reach a verbal deal for the bench

The 41-year-old coach in Qatar’s Al-Ahli would be the next Cádiz manager if the verbal agreement is finalized.

Cádiz and Borja Jiménez have reached a verbal agreement for the 41-year-old coach—currently at Al-Ahli in the Qatar Stars League—to take charge of the team if nothing derails the deal. The agreement is still pending formalization.

Jiménez joined the club on October 3 and has amassed seven league points in six matches: two wins, one draw and three defeats. His move to Cádiz would mark a return to Spanish football after his stint at Sporting Gijón in 2025-26, where he coached 37 games.

Before that, Jiménez spent two seasons at Leganés, winning the Segunda División title. His track record also includes Deportivo, Cartagena, Asteras Tripoli, Mirandés, Rápido de Bouzas, Izarra and Valladolid B, holds an UEFA Pro license and prefers the 4-2-3-1 system, according to MARCA.

Cádiz has already dismissed Albert Celades after collecting seven points from 30 and leaving the side in relegation places in Primera Federación. Celades arrived four days before the league began with a squad of 17 signings, managed only one win (4-0 vs Leganés), and defeats against Sporting and Granada led to his departure, along with assistants Raúl Valbuena and Juan José del Ojo.
