Borussia Dortmund fined 34,500 euros for flare incident in UCL
Villarreal lost 3-2 at Signal Iduna Park on September 8, but UEFA hits Dortmund with a 34,500-euro fine.
Borussia Dortmund have been fined by UEFA 34,500 euros for the conduct of their supporters during their match against Villarreal. The game was played on September 8 at Signal Iduna Park and ended with a 3-2 win for the Germans in the first matchday of the Champions League league phase.
In its disciplinary ruling, UEFA states the punishment is linked to the throwing of flares or other objects during the match. The decision refers to the UEFA Disciplinary Code, which prohibits this behaviour, and to Article 16 on order and safety that allows sanctions even if a club argues there was no negligence in the event organization.
