Carlos Castro trades football for futsal: signs for Santa Cruz de Mieres

Carlos Castro has left the pitch behind to switch to futsal. As Sport reports, the former Sporting forward—born in Ujo (Mieres)—will play this season in Tercera Federación futsal, facing clubs from Asturias aiming for promotion to Segunda B.

His career at the top level came with Sporting. Sport highlights that he appeared in 50 matches in LaLiga for the club and scored 11 goals, including an especially memorable one at El Molinón that helped defeat Atlético Madrid.

From the Sporting to the court

Now he returns to compete close to home. His new team is Santa Cruz de Mieres, who announced the signing through a friendly video on their social media, welcoming the player Sport describes as one of the most promising regional strikers.

Before this step, Castro also played for Mallorca, Elche, Lugo, Racing Santander and Dinamo Tbilisi. At 31, he starts this new chapter in futsal, with less pressure than professional football.

For Santa Cruz de Mieres, the move brings goal threat and top-level experience into a league where several teams are focused on winning the ticket to the higher division, and where Castro’s adaptation could make a real difference.
