Carrick and Iraola react to City verdict: ‘Uncertainty isn’t good’
City’s guilty ruling over Premier League financial rules triggers more decisions as appeals continue, with reactions from Carrick, Iraola, Kompany and Arteta.
Manchester United boss Michael Carrick reacted to the Manchester City guilty verdict over Premier League financial rule breaches, saying the “emotion” of winning belongs to “the moment” and can’t be regained once it’s gone. Carrick recalls that he was part of the United group who missed the title on the final day of the 2011-12 season, when Sergio Agüero’s late winner decided the top spot on goal difference.
Uncertainty and next games
Carrick added that the case being ongoing has affected him in different ways and argued that getting it sorted sooner is “essential”. Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola called for the matter to be dealt with quickly, insisting that “uncertainty is not good for anyone involved”, while urging his side to focus strictly on what happens on the pitch.
Vincent Kompany, now Bayern Munich head coach, said he remains “really proud” of what he achieved at City during his 2008-2019 spell, and stressed he’s preparing games rather than dwelling on the off-pitch issues. Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta meanwhile insisted the Premier League remains the best and said he will respect the process, noting the ruling is still unresolved because it has been appealed, according to The Guardian.
