Castrín: Luis García Plaza backs his Sevilla renewal push

Sevilla coach Luis García Plaza sounds optimistic about the Galician centre-back’s renewal, with nine months left on his contract.

Sevilla’s renewal talks now revolve around Andrés Castrín, with Luis García Plaza openly pushing for the deal. The Galician has nine months left and, as MARCA notes, has been used in six of seven league games so far, starting five despite the injury issues affecting Arouna Sangante and Kike Salas.

The coach’s message

García Plaza said on Canal Sur Radio that “when I arrived… I said: ‘This kid has to play’” and added: “I hope he renews.” He also stressed that if Sevilla builds its next foundations with Castrín and Kike, it “will be very positive”.

Why it matters now

José Ignacio Navarro’s first window as sporting director is aimed at reducing the wage bill while reshaping the squad, and Castrín is seen as important for that plan. Although the club had offers for him last summer, Sevilla kept him in the group.

Castrín was signed by the club’s B team: Sevilla paid €50,000 to Lugo in 2024. Transfermarkt currently values him at €6m, and his goal against Espanyol months ago helped the team on its way. When asked about renewing earlier, Castrín said that the talks “don’t depend on me” and that he’s focused on working.
