Cherki (France) hits back at the press as they beat Belgium 4-1
France topped its Nations League group A1 after a comeback: they were down 0-1 at 77’ and won 4-1 with Olise’s brace.
France, with Rayan Cherki central to the win, beat Belgium 4-1 to go top of Nations League Group A1 after a turnaround in Saint-Denis. Les Bleus were losing 0-1 at the 77’ mark before goals from Désiré Doué, Cherki and Michael Olise—who scored twice—leveled and sealed the result.
The controversy before Zidane
Ahead of the match, L’Équipe questioned Olise’s ability to lead, pointing to alleged past comments about how he dealt with jokes during training sessions involving Cherki at the World Cup. Cherki dismissed it as “invention” on his X profile and expanded on it in the mixed zone.
On TF1, the Manchester City '10' said: “Voy a empezar a reaccionar más, porque no hay que creer todo lo que se dice en la prensa sobre los jugadores.” He added: “Tenemos un grupo extraordinario… pocas veces he visto un grupo que funcione tan bien”. Under Zinedine Zidane, France also beat Turkey 0-1, beat Belgium 0-1, and drew 1-1 with Roberto Mancini’s new Italy.
