Chris Ramos eyes a return to the starting XI for Oviedo’s derby vs Sporting

Chris Ramos, the Real Oviedo forward, is targeting a return to the starting XI for the Asturian derby against Sporting Gijon after overcoming his physical problems.

He began the season as Julián Calero’s attacking reference and started the first two matchdays, vs Granada and Leganés. The second of those games derailed him: after a harsh one-on-one involving Raúl Fernández that ended in a red card, he also suffered a blow to his back in a fall. The issues kept him out of the squads for matches against Albacete, Burgos and Valladolid. His comeback came last weekend at Sabadell: Calero brought him on at half-time and he played the full second half.

Derby with clear chances

With Carlos Fernández and Isfan unavailable, the coach has fewer options up front, and Chris Ramos looks set to reclaim the role he had at the start of the campaign. He has 214 minutes across three appearances (two as a starter) and is still looking for his first official goal for Oviedo. Sunday offers a strong chance: he already scored against Sporting on 25 April 2025, netting in the 19th minute for Cádiz in a 1-0 win.
