Chupete joins Spain U21 call-up and keeps two Málaga players in squads

Chupete has been called up by Spain U21, bringing the number of Málaga players involved in the international break to two. The forward will work for four days with David Gordo’s side in a bid to be one of the answers up front, while Roberto Fernández remains with the absolute team and is waiting for a debut that could come this Saturday, per MARCA.

Roberto earned his first international call in July 2024, already at Sporting de Braga. He debuted in Algeciras against Malta in a 6-0 win, where he also opened his scoring account; later, he played more matches and scored in June 2025 at the Under-21 European Championship versus Romania.

For Chupete, the chance arrived later. His 26 goals in Segunda last season weren’t enough to convince David Gordo initially, who opted for Adrián Niño despite fewer league goals. Now, the Málaga forward gets the long-awaited call to wear the Spain shirt.
