Claudio Giráldez: “In the Europa League, every mistake hurts”
Celta’s coach urges the team to start scoring early in an eight-game group phase, with 3,000 travelling supporters at Celtic Park.
Claudio Giráldez, head coach of Celta Vigo, believes the Europa League punishes mistakes, saying “each error will be penalised.” With a short group stage of eight matches, he wants the team “to start picking up points as soon as possible,” and hopes that this Thursday they can aim for “three.” He also feels Celta were “very close” to taking points in the previous two games.
Short phase, high stakes
Giráldez argues that results come from good work and calls for the “most complete” performance, stressing they need to bank enough points to reach the next round quickly.
3,000 Celta fans at Celtic Park
He thanks the 3,000 supporters travelling to Celtic Park and highlights the effort required to play in one of the most “mythic” grounds in world football. His message is to compete “released,” enjoy the competition, and be ready across football, mental and physical areas against a rival in the same situation.
