Clément Turpin to referee Betis vs Porto at La Cartuja
The 44-year-old French referee will handle the opener for Betis in the Champions League, with Willy Delajod in VAR.
Clément Turpin, the 44-year-old French referee, will take charge of Betis vs Porto this Wednesday at Estadio de la Cartuja as the hosts make their Champions League debut, following their win on matchday one of the league phase, according to Mundo Deportivo.
It will be his first appearance in this Champions League stage. He comes with heavy European experience: last season his most recent European match was the quarter-final between Atlético de Madrid and Barcelona. He also refereed up to the quarter-finals at the World Cup, with Norway vs England decided in extra time (1-2) for England.
Turpin’s history with both clubs
This will be the second time he has officiated Betis in Europe. The previous one dates back to the 2024-2025 Conference League quarter-final second leg, when Betis drew 1-1 at Jagiellonia Białystok.
Turpin has refereed Porto six times in European competitions, with a record of two wins, one draw and three defeats. The latest was in 2024-2025 when he oversaw Porto’s home loss, 0-1, to Olympiacos. His last Porto win came in 2020-2021, a 0-1 victory against Manchester City. Willy Delajod will be in charge of VAR.
