Clemente to have surgery and will miss five to six weeks

Las Palmas full-back Enrique Clemente is set to go under the knife after persistent knee problems that have not settled down. As reported by MARCA, the operation aims to finally stop the issue, and he is expected to be out for five to six weeks.

A knee that won’t clear up

Clemente had featured in the match against Cádiz, where he even found the net, but he missed the next game versus Burgos. The report says he couldn’t train normally during the week and, although he was assessed on Friday to see if he could make the game, his feelings weren’t good enough. With the discomfort continuing, the club opted for surgical treatment.

Another setback for defence

The absence has been confirmed by coach Rubén de la Barrera in his press conference. MARCA quotes him: “We understand that Clemente’s absence will be around five or six weeks.” He added that he hopes the player can come back and move past the problem.

The news further adds pressure to the squad’s defensive options, with the medical room already occupied by Viti, Marvin, Álex Suárez and Opoku. De la Barrera also said Opoku’s debut won’t be immediate and could come in “two or three weeks”, to avoid rushing him.

With the situation tight, the coach had to use Loiodice at left-back against Burgos. MARCA adds that Rachid and Aidan Pérez from the youth teams were included, and that the club is also monitoring Valentino Raca, a centre-back from Las Palmas Atlético.
