Club Bruges vs Lens flagged as a high-risk match by Belgian police
This Wednesday at 21:00 in the Champions League, Belgian authorities use a “combi” plan for 1,470 Lens fans.
Club Bruges host RC Lens on Wednesday for the Champions League league phase matchday three (21:00), and the fixture has been flagged as “high-risk” by Belgian authorities. The reason is the close ties between fan groups linked to the Belgian side and ultras associated with LOSC, Lens’ long-time rival.
RMC Sport reports the authorities highlighted the game after the Champions League draw at the end of August in Monaco. The backdrop includes a visit a few weeks ago by Lens supporters to the Pierre-Mauroy stadium for the 10th anniversary of the friendship between the groups, even after North Fanatics had announced their dissolution in 2024.
Police “combi” plan
- 1,470 Lens supporters are expected in the away section.
- Travel will be mandatory by bus, with fans moved to the Jan-Breydel stadium parking area.
- From the border, coaches will be escorted by motorbikes all the way to the venue.
Authorities will also watch for any confrontations outside the stadium and for chants or messages from the stands that could further inflame the atmosphere, though they note LOSC’s Galatasaray game at home the same evening could reduce the chances of additional mixing.
