Courtois out of El Clásico with flu: Real Madrid confirm it
Academy goalkeeper Illia Voloshyn joins the squad, and Lunin will be in goal tonight at 9:00 p.m. in Barcelona.
Thibaut Courtois will not play tonight's El Clásico in Barcelona. According to Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid confirmed at 4:30 p.m. that the Belgian goalkeeper is definitively out, after he had kept hoping until the last moment to make the trip. The reason is flu, which keeps him in Madrid while he recovers.
Earlier in the day the club had already announced on its website that he was out of the squad due to a flu-like illness. In his place, academy goalkeeper Illia Voloshyn joins the squad. Lunin will be in goal, and kick-off is at 9:00 p.m.
The last Real Madrid league win in a Clásico played in Barcelona came in 2023, 1-2, and Courtois was not in goal that day either; Kepa took his place.
