Cristian Romero debuts as Argentina captain: 4-0 win vs Bolivia
Cristian Romero, captaining for the first time, scored the 3-0 header in Córdoba as Argentina beat Bolivia 4-0.
Cristian Romero, from Atlético Madrid, had his big moment with Argentina: the side beat Bolivia 4-0 in a friendly in Córdoba, with the Cuti debuting as first captain.
Captaincy and the decisive goal
The centre-back led the team and, shortly after the second half began, made it 3-0 with a header. Lautaro Martínez and Nico Paz also scored in the first half, and Flaco López sealed the 4-0 in the 86th minute.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Romero reflected after the match, saying it was “a day that will always stay marked in the rest of my life”, adding that starting his career in Belgrano and returning there after all he has achieved with the national team made it special. He also said Scaloni told him weeks ago he would be third captain and that Messi and Otamendi chose him. Scaloni praised him, insisting that when fit he’s among the best centre-backs in the world and noted the physical issue he hadn’t been at 100% recently.
