Cristiano Ronaldo scores as Al-Nassr win after Riad missile alert delay
Their AFC Champions League match was delayed by an hour due to a Civil Defence missile warning in Riyadh; Al-Nassr won 3-1.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored for Al-Nassr as they beat Neftchi Fergana 3-1 in the AFC Champions League, but the match was delayed by an hour because of a missile alert in Riyadh.
The delay was triggered just 15 minutes before kick-off after Saudi Civil Defence issued a safety warning in the capital. Explosions were heard on Monday night following attacks on Riyadh’s airport, though the Saudi-led coalition said a ballistic missile was intercepted and destroyed. The alert links to missile launches from Yemen-based Houthis.
After play resumed, Al-Nassr took control: Angelo put them ahead in the 33rd minute, and Ronaldo doubled their lead before half-time. Neftchi pulled one back, then were reduced to 10 men after 65 minutes and sealed the 3-1 with an own goal 13 minutes later, delivering the hosts’ first Group B win. Ronaldo also scored on Friday when he returned to club action after leaving Portugal’s camp halfway through the Nations League break.
