Dani Vivian, Prados and Rego: Athletic activate three new options at Anoeta
The Anoeta derby on Friday gave playing time to Vivian and put Prados and Rego back into Terzic’s plans for LaLiga.
Athletic made use of Friday’s Anoeta derby in San Sebastián to bring three players into the picture who had not yet played any official minutes: Dani Vivian, Álex Prados and Álex Rego. As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Terzic used the match to test them ahead of the real competitive run.
Vivian completed his second week with the group and played the last 20 minutes. He had been troubled since January, with the issues culminating in an adductor injury in mid-July, and he now needs to take what he showed in friendly-style minutes into the matches that count.
Prados and Rego started together in midfield; Rego ended up at centre-back. For Prados, despite being available for the last three league games, he still hadn’t debuted—his situation is tied to the severe knee injury that kept him out for a year.
Rego, who finished last season as the 13th most-used player by minutes yet has had his league minutes at zero under Terzic while still being called up, said there is “a lot of competition” for playing time. Next up, Vivian looks set to be involved from the weekend as Athletic travel to Rayo Vallecano, before a run of seven matches through to the November international break.
