Daniel Maldini scores as Cagliari draw 1-1 with Juventus
The in-form Daniel Maldini fires Cagliari to a 1-1 at Unipol Domus; Juventus slip to eighth.
Daniel Maldini keeps delivering and Cagliari hold Juventus to a 1-1 draw at Unipol Domus. The match swung 1-0 on his goal (20’), before Kolo Muani levelled in the 81st minute.
Fabio Pisacane’s plan worked: Cagliari sat deep and, before the break, only allowed one clear chance—Nico González’s knee finish after a Weston McKennie cross just missed the target near the quarter-hour. From the first real attack, the goal came: Daniele Maldini tried a wall pass, Paul Mendy saved the initial effort and then set up Daniel Maldini to finish at close range.
Juventus without rhythm
Maldini has scored in four straight matchdays, with his goals bringing seven points for the Sardinians. Juventus, though, are eighth and sit six points off the top, as Luciano Spalletti made changes after half-time—Kerim Alajbegovic and Edon Zhegrova came on, and the latter fired four times in about 20 minutes.
The equaliser arrived despite that better Cagliari defending: Alajbegovic delivered from the left and Kolo Muani headed in (81’), his first Serie A goal of the season for the bianconeri. At the end, Spalletti and Pisacane exchanged words and were both sent off after the final whistle, with Matteo Marcenaro in charge.
