Daniel Siebert will referee Villarreal vs Napoli at La Cerámica

Villarreal host Napoli at Estadio de la Cerámica this Tuesday with Daniel Siebert as the match referee. The 42-year-old German is part of the UEFA Elite group, referees in Germany’s top league since 2012, and has been an international official since 2015. He rose to prominence for the controversial Ghana-Uruguay clash at the Qatar World Cup.

It’s Siebert’s first Champions League game this season and the fourth time he’s faced Villarreal in European competition, with a record of two draws and one win. The most recent meeting was the 2021-22 Champions League round of 16 first leg vs Juventus, ending 1-1.

He has also refereed Napoli twice in European club competitions, with one win and one defeat; the latest was last season’s league phase, when Napoli were thrashed 6-2 by PSV in Eindhoven. The VAR role will be handled by the German Sören Storks, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
