David Costas praises José Luis Morales and trusts Julián Calero at Oviedo
The Oviedo captain says Morales will “adapt quickly” and breaks down the last two away defeats: 3-1 at Sabadell and 4-1 vs Eldense.
David Costas, captain of Real Oviedo, spoke this Tuesday at El Requexón about José Luis Morales—an “express” signing by the club—and is convinced he will adapt quickly thanks to his connection with coach Julián Calero. The defender admitted the move surprised him: “It wasn’t really being talked about.” Still, he said that once you see who he is, “it clicks,” and stressed that the manager asked for him “to come and help us.”
Costas also looked back at the two latest away losses: Oviedo fell 3-1 at Sabadell and were beaten 4-1 by Eldense. He argued that, “for the full 90 minutes,” the team couldn’t “win a duel against their direct opponent,” and added that the video session showed them what went wrong in Elda. He said the squad isn’t finding “good sensations” both with and without the ball.
Regarding his own role, after a minor muscular injury he lost his spot in the starting XI, with Calvo and Carlos Domínguez now established at the heart of the defense. Costas said he’ll wait for his chance, but insisted the priority is “to win matches.” This morning’s session was Oviedo’s first of the week after three days off following the Eldense defeat; coach Calero had seven injury absences (Escandell, Juan Cruz, Ilyas Chaira, Estanis Pedrola, Chris Ramos, Carlos Fernández, Alexandru Isfan) and Morales trained with the group throughout.
