David Moyes: surprised by Everton sale after learning it on Friday
The Everton boss says he only found out from the statement to fans, as Friedkin Group considers selling a controlling stake.
David Moyes, manager of Everton, admitted his surprise at the club being put up for sale. He said he only really became aware “this morning”, adding that the key moment was Friday morning, when the statement was released to supporters.
Speaking in a press conference, Moyes also suggested signs had been building from the most recent transfer window, arguing that owners usually stay far longer than the 18 months the Friedkin Group have been in charge. “Yeah I was surprised, they'd only came in a year and a half ago,” he said, pointing out that TFG completed its full takeover in December 2024, ending Farhad Moshiri’s long spell.
Sale and control
The Friedkin Group said it is open to new investment, including the “potential sale of a controlling interest”. Moyes added that TFG would only entertain interest from parties they view as the “right stewards to take the club forward”, as reported by Sky Sports.
