De Zerbi backs Tottenham’s medical staff ahead of Chelsea visit
Tottenham head to Stamford Bridge this Saturday with nine possible absences, but Pedro Porro is back from injury.
Roberto De Zerbi, Tottenham’s head coach, insisted his selection problems ahead of Chelsea this Saturday at Stamford Bridge are a “normal” situation, despite the nine players who could miss the match. The Italian argued that the club’s medical team bears no blame, while pointing to the return of Pedro Porro and saying Andy Robertson, Omar Marmoush and Dominic Solanke were “good” amid fitness concerns.
Almost the whole squad out
De Zerbi confirmed Destiny Udogie is still unavailable and Tosin Adarabioyo is doubtful. He also explained that James Maddison didn’t train for three days after the home win over Coventry on Monday and may not be ready, while adding that Dejan Kulusevski will be handled carefully after clocking his first minutes since May 2025 against Frank Lampard’s side. The manager listed longer-term absences including Lucas Bergvall and Savio, and noted Rodrigo Bentancur is suspended.
Alonso on discipline
Elsewhere, Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso linked the Blues’ improved disciplinary record to “emotional control”, crediting his side with staying calm and not “losing our heads”. Alonso also highlighted that Chelsea have not received a red card this season and were disciplined in their 2-0 win at Everton last weekend, while stressing that playing with control in the Premier League can be tough in a crowd-driven competition.
