De Zerbi credits Tottenham’s clear-the-air meeting and Marbella trip
Spurs climb to 16th after their first Premier League win of the season: 3-1 vs Coventry, following a 1-1 at Man United.
Roberto De Zerbi says Tottenham are showing “more togetherness” after a clear-the-air meeting before their recent trip to Manchester United. Spurs then drew 1-1 with 10 men against United, and moved out of the bottom three after beating Coventry 3-1 at home on Monday night.
The manager also pointed to a bonding trip to Marbella last week, combining team time with warm-weather training. “This week has been important because we spend time together and want to be like a family,” he said. He added that in tough moments on the pitch you play for “your friend and your brother”, not as “11 robot players”.
The win featured James Maddison’s first goal since May 2025, Coventry’s equaliser from Jack Rudoni, and a response from Omar Marmoush, whose strike was his first since leaving Manchester City. Ben Davies sealed it, while De Zerbi noted Dejan Kulusevski came off the bench for his first appearance since a serious knee injury.
