Denis Suárez treated for a cut to his mouth after colliding with the referee
The incident happened in the 83rd minute of Alavés-Málaga, and the player returned with gauze to stop the bleeding.
Denis Suárez (Málaga) needed medical treatment for a cut to his mouth after colliding with referee Carlos Muñiz in the 83rd minute of Alavés-Málaga. According to MARCA, the clash was accidental: referee and player both fell to the ground in a play unfolding for Alavés.
The official had to regain his footing after several slips before he could continue controlling the match. Suárez, meanwhile, was the one who suffered most: he was bleeding from the lip and received care from the Deportivo Alavés doctors on the sideline. He rejoined the game with gauze in his mouth to stop the bleeding.
Alavés later complained that the referee should not have stopped Málaga’s attacking phase, arguing that the call contributed to the visitors losing possession. Suárez also didn’t agree with how long he had to wait off the pitch after being treated.
