Diego Tiberio sidelined by Real Zaragoza over treatment of youth players

Zaragoza activated its child-protection protocol and removed Tiberio from Cadete B after a complaint from three families.

Real Zaragoza has activated its child-protection protocol at its training facilities and has removed Diego Tiberio, coach of the Cadete B, from his duties following complaints about how he allegedly treated players. The 24-year-old arrived in June as part of a restructure of the youth setup, after Ramón Lozano’s departure and Javier Garcés’s appointment.

Before joining the Zaragoza academy, Tiberio coached at Ebro and Racing Zaragoza. He led Infantil B in 2022-23, then took over Infantil A, and later the División de Honor side—where he achieved the objective of staying up. In May he posted a farewell on social media saying: “ha llegado el momento de cerrar una de las etapas más importantes de mi vida”.

The club states that three families raised objections to the alleged treatment of their children, and that is why it put the coach aside to investigate. Garcés has already met with Tiberio, and there was also a meeting with the parents of the three players yesterday; an additional session with the whole team was scheduled for early in the week. Until the case is reviewed, Tiberio will not coach the side today against Racing Zaragoza in the Cadete Autonómica league.
