Dro Fernández and Luis Enrique in spotlight at PSG over alleged favouritism
L’Équipe reports tension inside PSG: coach Luis Enrique allegedly gives preferential treatment to Dro after recent Ligue 1 games.
Pedro “Dro” Fernández, the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, and Luis Enrique are at the centre of controversy inside the club over alleged preferential treatment, according to L’Équipe. The doubts reportedly stem from the player’s management: his agent, the Spanish Iván de la Peña, also represents the coach, and some compare Dro’s handling with that of Senny Mayulu and Quentin Ndjantou.
The story adds that the issue is creating friction in the academy. The signing has reportedly triggered misunderstandings among young players, who believe other prospects may be equally promising and see fewer opportunities. In particular, the exits to Famalicão of Mathis Jange and, especially, Aymen Assab’s move to Monaco have been viewed by some as fallout from the arrival of the Spaniard’s client.
On the pitch, Dro has started twice in the last Ligue 1 matches—against Le Mans and Strasbourg—and was taken off before the hour in those games. In the Champions League opener he played the full 90 minutes versus Slovan Bratislava in the 6-1 win, although his lack of power and inconsistency are also being questioned.
