Edu Expósito put Espanyol ahead in the 64th minute at El Sardinero with a cross-shot, after a pass from Javi Hernández. It was Javi Hernández's sixth assist, matching Lamine Yamal's tally, and Expósito's first goal of the season.
The celebration did not last long. In the 69th minute, Belocian brought Racing level with a rasping drive that struck the post before going in, despite a diving save from Fortuño. According to Mundo Deportivo, the keeper had been the best of his side and had kept out a goal just before the 62nd minute.
The match was tight, with plenty of turnovers and fouls, and Racing were the side pushing harder in the second half.
