Emiliano Martinez breaks jaw: Chelsea keeper out for weeks
Martinez suffered the injury in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Everton and says he’ll be back in a few weeks after successful surgery.
Emiliano Martinez, Chelsea’s goalkeeper, broke his jaw in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Everton and says he’ll be back “in a few weeks” following surgery the club described as “successful”. The incident came after a clash of heads with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite in the second half at Hill Dickinson Stadium, according to BBC Sport.
Martinez needed treatment for eight minutes and left the pitch on a stretcher. On Sunday he shared a picture on social media wearing a hospital gown.
With him out, Mike Penders stepped in and is set to play at least the next three matches: Premier League trips to Tottenham and Manchester United, with a Carabao Cup tie against Liverpool in between.
