Enzo Maresca defends Man City’s Anfield celebrations after 3-0
City boss answers backlash after Sunday’s 3-0 win at Liverpool and addresses the mood ahead of PSG in the Champions League.
Enzo Maresca, the Manchester City coach, defended his squad’s celebrations at Anfield after a 3-0 win over Liverpool on Sunday. The trip to Merseyside was City’s first match after an independent commission found them guilty on all charges tied to serious Premier League financial rule breaches—something the club is appealing while continuing to deny any wrongdoing.
Following goals from Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki, City players were pictured celebrating with travelling away fans at full time, which triggered criticism online. When asked about the celebrations and the reaction around them ahead of facing Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday, Maresca pushed back: "Criticised for what? We won 0-3 at Anfield. What do you want us to do?"
He also stressed that his attention is on winning matches, not on outside noise, adding: "The rest is just things from outside which we need to deal [with]."
