Erik ten Hag slams Man United’s broken “promises” and pushed for Kane
In an interview with The Athletic via Sky Sports, Ten Hag discussed his Old Trafford spell, the Cristiano Ronaldo tension and his push for Harry Kane.
Erik ten Hag looked back on his Manchester United tenure in an interview for The Athletic, aired through Sky Sports, two years after his sacking in October 2024. The former manager says he feels “connected” to the club and insists he still wants United to win, while also addressing the instability he says surrounded the project.
His take on Old Trafford
He argues that leadership needs “competence” and “the right strategy”, asking “What is your identity? What are the work methods?” and stressing that the club also needs the right structures and people, plus “time”.
Kane and Ronaldo tension
Ten Hag also touches the failed attempt to bring in Harry Kane and the clashes involving Cristiano Ronaldo. He frames it as a continued pursuit of getting Manchester United “back where it once was”, despite the turbulent mood around the club.
